Drs. Eugene and Olga Titov of Marsh Cove Dental and Implant Center in Naples, FL, offer a wide range of restorative dental procedures to their patients. One popular treatment option is dental implants. Dental implants are an excellent way to restore the smile after tooth loss, as these versatile restorations can be used in many different manners to achieve a smile you can be proud to share with others!

What are dental implants, and what are the benefits?

Dental implants are small titanium posts that are placed in the jawbone where teeth are missing. The titanium post fuses with the bone through a process called osseointegration and acts as a new “root” for the replacement tooth. Once the implant has healed, a natural-looking replacement tooth, typically a crown, is placed on top of the implant. Patients that need to replace more than one tooth may have their implant restored using other restorations, including dental bridges or full dentures.

Dental implants have many benefits over other types of tooth replacement options:

  • They look and feel like natural teeth
  • They can last a lifetime with proper care
  • They allow you to both eat and speak normally
  • They can retain fixed dentures in place
  • They are stable and strong due to placement in the bone
  • They are the gold standard in tooth replacement
  • They are made of a metal that is biocompatible with the body

Who is a good candidate for dental implants?

The best candidates for dental implants are adult men and women who are missing teeth and have sufficient bone of the jaw remaining for the successful placement of the restorations. During a consultation appointment with our patients, we evaluate one’s smile with a physical examination and dental x-rays to ensure the patient is a good fit for implants. Alternative options patients might consider include dental bridges and dentures.
